I am a local guide expert of the Jewish Ghetto area and my purpose is to unveil the area to help you to better understand the Jewish Ghetto is in Cannaregio before entering to it, so first of allwe will visit a greenish area you can’t even imagine. Together we will discover the history of the Jewish Community of Venice, how the Jews lived before creating a ghetto, why and how Venice created the 1st ghetto of the world.
You could spend a lifetime exploring Venice, and you’d never stop being surprised. What you’ll going to love most about Cannaregio is that it still has quiet, secluded spots overlooking the lagoon, homes to local people and enchanting refuges for visitors: a less well known Venice, but no less fascinating. We will visit a fascinating green area to discover more about the history of the Venetian Jewish Community and how the district of Cannaregio looked like at the time of the ghetto
We will take a relaxing and unique walk through the three Ghettos of Venice (yes, they are three!) at the discovery of the history, curiosities and daily life and of past and the present of this charming area. I’ll be sure to show you all of the highlights and hidden gems along the way! Do you know the origin of the word ghetto? Why Venice created the first one of the history? Who was the Doge at that time? Do you want to recognize symbols of that time that only an expert knows? Do you want to listen curiosities about the great people lived here ? And maybe do you remember Merchant in Venice by Shakespare? If yes, this is your tour!
I have the licence to run tours inside the Jewish Museum and the synagogues but this tour doesn’t include the visit to the Synagogues that can be included in the private tour, or I can give you all the info to buy by yourself the tickets at the end of our tour.
On certain dates, most travelers staying outside of Venice who are planning to visit for the day will be required to pay a €5 access fee. If you want to Join the small group tour Venice Jewish Ghetto and you will come just for the day or further details (including exemptions) and to learn what days this fee is applicable, please visit: https://cda.ve.it
Cannot recommend this tour enough, it was by far the best and most detailed tour I have been on
Insightful tour into the lesser know neighborhood of Venice We did the Jewish Gheto tour with Lucia and it was absolutely incredible. She is full of great knowledge about the city and the neighborhood and the culture. Lucia also gives a lot of history about Venice before the ghetto was formed and the reasons behind it and the changes since. It’s a great look into a lesser known hidden part of town away from the crowds and I would absolutely reccomend her tour!
Comfortable, relaxed tour in the ghetto. We really enjoyed the Jewish Ghetto tour in Venice with Lucia. We learned so much about the history of the Jewish people in Europe and Venice. Loved the cat shop in the ghetto. Enjoyed learning about its heros and martyrs. Got to taste the kosher bakery goods as well. Got good advice about the city. Very meaningful tour.
Incredible experience with Lucia! This was one of our best experiences in Venice. Lucia was a thoughtful, charming, insightful tour guide who made this experience one that we will always remember. I had read great reviews on her and she surpassed them. If you want to take a tour of the Jewish ghetto or any other other guides that she offers don’t hesitate as she books up fast!
