Description

If you are looking for a special view of Venice choose my Cannaregio Tour!

Let a local help you to discover secrets, history and gems of this charming area of Venice: Cannaregio one of the biggest “sestieri” of Venice.

Sestiere is the typical Venetian district and Cannaregio is in the north of Venice, nowadays is the same area of the railway station.

This district is well worth a visit for many different reasons. It can be seen as a kind of  classic, pictoresque neighbourhood but it is also the living area of the bacari, typical winebars where you can stand or sit to feel as a Venetian.

The Jewish Ghetto tour will show you a maze of streets and canals, you can find gondole and sandoli and very often painters sitting at their easels to capture the typical venetian light.  Everyone loves Venice, but once in Cannaregio you’ll fall for its personality, details and history.

I am sure you will fall in love with Cannaregio and the Jewish Ghetto area . This is the first Jewish Ghetto of the world and I will teach you the right local pronunciation. Let’s get involved in the history of Venice with me, a local art historian and first of all a  great lover of the area!

This tour is a piece of heart for me, I will explain you why during our tour!

Together we will enjoy an amazing point of view of the lagoon (here we are so close to the northern side of Venice). We will pass through the historical and charming Jewish Ghetto, one of my favorite areas of the floating city.

I will show you an hidden park (yes, Venice can be so green and this is the place where we sit and relax). We will see some of our schools, the “fondamenta” famous for our “bacari” winebar, the Merchant of Venice area, places famous for incredible legends.

And then, the Scuola Grande della Misericordia a former confraternity with a special and funny story, a unique bridge, a special church not touristy at all. The the sites where the painters Tintoretto and Tiziano used to live and finally we can even change sestiere and reach the Venetian pantheon, a church that everyone should visit in Venice!

My Venice is such a special city and even the names of the streets are so unique, we call them “nizioleti” and I will show you how special can be!

So, we will see the authentic Venetian daily life speaking about the past and the present and meeting locals.

This will be a relaxing walk in this charming and peaceful side of the floating city. Together during the Venice Jewish Ghetto Tour we will visit hidden corners. We  will talk about history, architecture  and art as Venetians do.

Highlights of the Cannaregio tour:

  • the history of an incredible Venetian family;
  • a hidden green park where locals get relaxed;
  • the complex history of the first Jewish Ghetto of the world;
  • we will discover the steps of Shylock, character of Shakespeare’s “Merchant of Venice”;
  • Legends linked to  the Church of Madonna dell’Orto;
  • The place where Jacopo Robusti, better known as Tintoretto and Tiziano lived (our master of art);
  • The Scuola Grande della Misericordia, the history from Confraternity to  the most beautiful gym in the world and now exhibition hall;
  • Fondamente Nove, the northern side of Venice. Take a look to the island of Murano, the cemetery of San Michele. When we are so lucky in the clearest days even the Dolomites and PreAlps mountains!
  • The beautiful Gesuiti church, not so tourist but for sure stunning

It was a very interesting tour, it made us notice the little details of Venezia that noone else tells you about. Lucia is very nice and funny, she encourages questions and makes the tour very easy going. Highly recommended, Venezia shown by a true Venetian!

Lucia was a FABULOUS tour guide. She showed us really interesting off the beaten track places. She offered history, facts and perspective to this fascinating area of Venice — all in her excellent English and charming manner. I highly recommend Lucia over any of the other tour guides we encountered along the way. A very special day.

Wonderful Tour! Lucia is an excellent guide, with an obvious passion for Venice and her work. We learned much, and thoroughly enjoyed our walk through Cannareggio with her. I took the tour with my two 18 year old grandsons who were interested and engaged, in spite of the fact we were fresh from 24 hours of travel. After the tour, we had dinner at restaurant Lucia recommended, and gelato from her favorite gelateria. I highly recommend Lucia’s tour to all.

Lucia is a fantastic and an incredibly passionate and knowledgeable guide. We were a group of 15, 7 adults and 8 children, most of whom had a short attention span. Lucia was able to engage everyone on the 2.5 hour tour. She patiently answered all our questions about the Jewish Ghetto and many others about Venice. Her English is excellent and everyone was able to understand what she was saying. To top off this incredible experience, Lucia treated us to delicious gelato, which was enjoyed by everyone on a hot August day. I wholeheartedly recommend Lucia as a guide, you won’t be disappointed. She has a pleasant manner and much knowledge to impart about Venice and its Jewish Ghetto. Superb guide

We had a wonderful 3 hour experience with Lucia - explored the Jewish ghetto and the historical past of the Jews in Venice. We loved the Cannaregio area and she even sneaked in a quick walk through the fish market for us to enjoy on our way to our tour. A lovely person with so much knowledge and enthusiasm. I highly recommend her for any Venice tours that she does! Fantastic excursion with Lucia!

Spannender Spaziergang

An amazing trip to the Jewish ghetto. Lucia brought the story of the ghetto to life! She was enthusiastic and amazingly knowledgeable … I wish I had more time in Venice to take some more tours with her. You can tell that she loves what she does!

Ho veramente apprezzato.

Discovering the real Venice Absolutely amazing! We stayed in Cannaregio for 4 nights before this tour and did not discover any of the fantastic things Lucia showed us during this tour alone! We loved getting to know this quiet side of Venice off the main streets, away from the tourists and close to the locals who created all the history of this beautiful place. We learned about the Jewish community that played such an important role in Venice. We visited local stores and discovered fantastic food. One of the most beautiful walks we took in Venice! We are very grateful to Lucia for her availability and willingness to teach and help! If you go to Venice, please take this tour!

Amazing Tour This is one of the best tours my wife and I have taken. Lucia shared the history not only of the ghettos, but also of Venice in order to set the foundation and give us a better understanding of it all. She is great story teller and very passionate about what she does. She made the tour interactive and fun while immersing us in the history of the ghettos but also Venice. She even went above and beyond by sharing recommendations of some of her favorite spots in Venice and offering herself as a resource for the rest of her visit. I can’t speak highly enough of this tour and of Lucia. This is a must do tour during your time in Venice!
