I am a local guide expert of the Jewish Ghetto area and my purpose is to unveil the area to help you to better understand the Jewish Ghetto is in Cannaregio before entering to it, so first of allwe will visit a greenish area you can’t even imagine. Together we will discover the history of the Jewish Community of Venice, how the Jews lived before creating a ghetto, why and how Venice created the 1st ghetto of the world.
You could spend a lifetime exploring Venice, and you’d never stop being surprised. What you’ll going to love most about Cannaregio is that it still has quiet, secluded spots overlooking the lagoon, homes to local people and enchanting refuges for visitors: a less well known Venice, but no less fascinating. We will visit a fascinating green area to discover more about the history of the Venetian Jewish Community and how the district of Cannaregio looked like at the time of the ghetto
We will take a relaxing and unique walk through the three Ghettos of Venice (yes, they are three!) at the discovery of the history, curiosities and daily life and of past and the present of this charming area. I’ll be sure to show you all of the highlights and hidden gems along the way! Do you know the origin of the word ghetto? Why Venice created the first one of the history? Who was the Doge at that time? Do you want to recognize symbols of that time that only an expert knows? Do you want to listen curiosities about the great people lived here ? And maybe do you remember Merchant in Venice by Shakespare? If yes, this is your tour!
I have the licence to run tours inside the Jewish Museum and the synagogues but this tour doesn’t include the visit to the Synagogues that can be included in the private tour, or I can give you all the info to buy by yourself the tickets at the end of our tour.
On certain dates, most travelers staying outside of Venice who are planning to visit for the day will be required to pay a €5 access fee. If you want to Join the small group tour Venice Jewish Ghetto and you will come just for the day or further details (including exemptions) and to learn what days this fee is applicable, please visit: https://cda.ve.it
Unique tour in Venice. Lucia has so much knowledge & is able to articulate the many important features of both the brick & mortar as well as the history .
Excellant education, wonderful presentation of jewish history, incredibly enlightening experience which integrated ancient past and present history of the jewish condition in Venice. Her narrative was mixed with facts, historical parallels and personal family experience to portray very realistic living conditions in the Venice Ghetto. She was warm, thoughtful, personable and interested in our well being. It is a must tour with Lucia when visiting Venice.
Lucia is friendly, well informed, and passionate. We could not have found a better guide to explain the history of Venice’s Jewish Ghetto.
We have done a lot of tours over the last few weeks and this was the best one by far. Lucia is delightful, knowledgeable, approachable and super engaging.
Lucia was a fantastic tour guide! Lucia is super knowledgeable and friendly, and our time together in the Jewish Ghetto made our trip to Venice all the more special. Lucia’s storytelling and deep connections to the community left us feeling like we were locals. She will be the first person we reach out to when planning our return trip!
Great experience that I can wholeheartedly recommend. Lucia is very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating towards any questions or needs. Great tour through the ghettos and about people living there. She even gave us recommendations for other non-overcrowded Venice spots and food places.
Highly recommend. An area steeped in history which Lucia bought to life in a way that was super interesting from the 10yo through to the adults. Really enjoyed it.
Lucia was very knowledgeable about the history of the ghetto. It was very enjoyable and 2 hours flew by so fast. Definitely would recommend.
The tour was fantastic ! It was as instructive as it was lively. Lucia’s enthusiasm helped us discover this important part of Jewish history ! Hardly recommended.
We came for Art Biennale and this tour was a nice break from our art galore. It was great to see and learn about something off the tourist grid. Lucy was very knowledgeable and passionate about her subject and also gave us some extra tips about Venice. I highly recommend this tour.
